Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy
Why is it that the person we love the most can become the most threatening to us? We want to feel connected and yet our behaviors end up pushing them away….and vice versa. You are not alone. Most couples can find themselves in a negative cycle at some point, unable to find their way out of it. We are social animals! We need each other. Attachment science makes sense of our interactions with each other. I love helping couples and families understand their particular dance, making the connections between what the underlying need is and more adaptive ways to express that need, thereby bringing a feeling of safety and connection.
Trained in EMDR and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), I work with couples and individuals. EMDR helps clients discover ways that past experiences might be influencing current functioning and assist in new ways of engaging in their lives. EFT works beautifully to support couples in understanding and meeting each other’s needs in effective ways.
My undergraduate background and previous career are in the performing arts, which influences my perspective as a therapist. I see the individual’s infinite creative potential. “The energy of creativity is like a fire that transforms all kinds of obstacles into opportunities for dynamic new growth and advancement” (Daisuku Ikeda).
