Licensed Therapist
Penn helps adults, couples, and families work through addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges, combining professional training with his own long-term recovery experience to help clients understand what may be keeping them stuck and build a more meaningful life.
Penn offers an integrated, trauma-informed approach rooted in attachment theory and whole-person care.
He draws from CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic theory to help clients understand the connections between their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors while developing greater emotional resilience and practical ways to navigate everyday life.
Penn's style is collaborative and strengths-based. He prioritizes safety and rapport and follows the client's lead in establishing goals, while becoming more structured and skills-focused when a client wants additional direction.
A first session typically explores what is bringing someone to therapy now, as well as the experiences and relationships that provide context for their current challenges.
Penn believes clients are more than any single diagnosis or label. His work considers relationships, career, purpose, gender, cultural identity, sexuality, and other parts of a person's experience as part of the larger clinical picture.
He has experience working with LGBTQIA+ clients and is affirming of a wide range of identities and backgrounds, including body-positive and multicultural perspectives.
Penn holds a master's degree and brings both professional training and personal insight to his work. He has worked as an addiction counselor since 2015 and as a licensed therapist, with his own long-term recovery experience informing his understanding of change and resilience.
Whether you're struggling with addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, or relationship issues, I am here to guide you toward discovering your inner strengths and resources. Together, we can explore your values, beliefs, and goals to help you create a fulfilling and meaningful life on your terms.Penn Shelton, LCSW
